Good morning!

We have been watching the weather all week.  Our goal is to ensure that our commencement is the best that it can be for our seniors.  They have worked hard over the last four years to make it to this point.   We want our commencement to represent and recognize all of their accomplishments.


The most current forecast indicates that we will have showers in the morning. As such, we will be re-scheduling our commencement to 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 12th.   Again, our goal is to have the best commencement proceedings as possible.


Seniors should park or be dropped off at Page MS no later than 12:30. The last bus will run at 1:15

Congratulations to Logan Hall.  Logan is this year’s recipient of the Adam Neely Scholarship.
 
As a reminder, parents or guardians that want to visit GHS must schedule an appointment to enter the building. If you wish to schedule an appointment, please call the GHS main office.

The request form to expunge semester 2 and yearlong final grades of "D" or "F" is now on the GHS website.  Requests must be turned in to your child's administrator no earlier than June 10th and no later than June 17th.  If approved, final grades of "D" or "F" will be changed on your child's transcript to "W" and will not be calculated into the GPA.  Please read the form carefully before requesting a grade be expunged.

 
The last day for Seniors will be this Tuesday, June 8, 2021.
 
Our Commencement Ceremony for GHS 2021 senior class will be June 12th  at the GHS Stadium.  Masks must be worn upon entering the ceremony.  Further details are on the GHS website.

“Senior Walk”
There will be a “Senior Walk” through the elementary schools on June 10, 2021. If you are interested in participating in the “Senior Walk”, you must call the GHS main office to sign up. The deadline to sign up is Monday, June 7, 2021.  When signing up, you will need to request your preferred Elementary school. Each School will have a specific time for seniors to attend. You will need to wear your cap & gown and masks are required. You will also need to provide your own transportation.  
 
Chromebook return dates: 
 
Seniors:  The return date for all Chromebooks along with their cords will be June 8, 2021 for all seniors.  
 
9 thru 11 grade:  The return date for in person students will be June 15, 2021 and placed with your last period teacher.  For Virtual students in grades 9-11, the dates will be June 16 & 17.  
 
Please make sure when returning Chromebooks that the charging cord and block are with the Chromebook.  There is a fee of $49.00 for the charging cords/blocks.  If there is any other damage you will be contacted and a fee will be required.
 
SCA: Voting in the SCA and Class elections begins tomorrow, Monday June 7th and ends Thursday, June 10th.  Place your votes by going to the GHS website under “Announcements” and click on SCA Elections. 
 
The final Spirit Week to celebrate the end of this interesting school year starts tomorrow!

Fall or Winter athletes:  All VHSL & GCPS eligibility requirements to participate in sports are still in place for the 2021-22 school year. Eligibility information can be found on the GHS website and in Canvas. Contact Ms. Hunter if you have questions. 
 
Cheerleading: Tryouts for JV & Varsity are June 16th and 17th from 5:00pm-7:00pm in the GHS Auxiliary Gym. You must have updated physical on file!
 
FootballSummer workouts will start June 21st, Monday through Thursday, 5:00pm – 7:30pm. You must have a physical to attend.
 
Yearbooks: Yearbooks are still on sale for $45. They will be shipped to your residence. Go to yearbookordercenter.com and enter code 4758.  

Cosmetology: Cosmetology 1 and Cosmetology 2 Students: Please return the loaner kits and contents that were provided for your instructional and state board use.  The return date to school is:  May 31-June 8th.  Students will sign that they have returned the kit and items provided by GHS Cosmetology Department.
Chromebook Return Information: 
 
Seniors:  Seniors should leave their Chromebooks and chargers with their last block teacher on June 8, 2021.  If you need your Chromebook past 6/8, feel free to return it to the main office via appointment June 14-17, 2021.
 
Grades 9 thru 11:  Students should leave their Chromebooks and chargers with their last block teacher on June 15, 2021.

All Virtual Students should return their Chromebooks and chargers to the main office via appointment from June 14-17th.

This is for long-term (longer than 1 week) dual ridership. 
To request your child to be picked up and/or dropped off at a location other than their home of residence, please complete Section I and Section II of the linked form. Please allow three (3) business days for processing.  Once approved, the Transportation Office will notify you and the school.  To expedite the process, e-mail the completed form to; tdirector@gc.k12.va.us. Asterisk items below require completion.  Transportation will assign the Bus, Bus stop and approximate time. Forms received after mid-August may not be processed for the beginning of the school year.

Gloucester High School Seniors and Families,

Good evening!

We are excited about our commencement ceremony this year.  While this has been a unique year, our commitment to academic excellence has remained consistent and we look forward to celebrating our seniors’ accomplishments with our families and community members.

I wanted to give you some updates regarding our 2021 commencement:
  1. Our Commencement ceremony will be held at the Gloucester High School Stadium on June 12th at 9 am. There will be alternate dates of June 13th and 14th for inclement weather.
  1. Each senior will have a ten ticket allocation for guests.  No extra tickets will be distributed.
  1. Seniors who participate in commencement should park at Page MS. Buses will be provided to transport students from Page Middle School to Gloucester High School. Students must be at Page Middle School no later than 8:15. 
  1. Individuals that need to utilize handicapped parking can park in the parent loop
  1. Graduation Practice will occur at the Gloucester High School Stadium on June 11th at 9:00am.  Graduation practice is mandatory.  Seniors will receive their 10 tickets at the practice.
  1. The Governor’s policies regarding masks will be in effect for guests.

We hope that you had a wonderful summer.  A brief introduction of your Senior Class Sponsors: Ms. Thompson is a Special Education teacher and Mrs. Zanette the Graduation Coach.   

Since the school year is starting off virtually, we wanted to share with you a few ways we will be communicating with our seniors and families until we are back in the school building.  First, we will be utilizing Naviance to email seniors and we have also created social media accounts specific to the Class of 2021 to blast information out.  We also created an account on the Remind App.

As partners in our academic success, well-being, and safety, we are asking you to follow these mitigation guidelines:
  1. Students should wear masks at all times, except during lunch or while eating and drinking.
  2. Masks should be worn over the mouth and nose.  Masks should also fit snugly over the chin.
  3. Students should follow the arrows during transitions. These arrows were created to ensure pathways for appropriate social distancing.
  4. Make sure that you socially distance. Students should not gather in groups or crowds. Please spread out.
VHSL & GCPS Athletic Eligibility Requirements For All Athletes:

Virginia High School League Eligibility Rules:
  • A student athlete must take and pass 3 or more classes the semester before the desired sport season. (3 of 4 classes when in a 4 x 4 schedule).
    • For Fall and Winter Sports seasons this is determined by grades in the 2nd semester (3rd & 4th quarters combined).
    • For Spring Sports this is determined by grades in the 1st semester (1st & 2nd quarters combined) of the corresponding school year.
The Gloucester County Public School 2.0 Requirements:
  • A student athlete must have at least a 2.0 grade point average (GPA) from the previous semester or have a 2.0 overall GPA. Unlike the VHSL rule there is a waiver application for the 2.0 requirement.  This waiver is a one-time chance; a student cannot use more than one waiver during high school. Waiver applications are on the GHS website and are due by the deadline dates before the seasons start.
    • For Fall and Winter Sports seasons this is determined by grades in the 2nd semester (3rd & 4th quarters combined).
    • For Spring Sports this is determined by grades in the 1st semester (1st & 2nd quarters combined) of the corresponding school year.
