Duke Update February 26, 2023

Calendar adjustments: To allow for movement of classrooms and offices so that the GHS renovation project can begin, GCPS has made the following calendar adjustments:
- Friday, March 3, is an Early Dismissal Day, with students being dismissed at 12:30.
- Monday, March 6 is a Remote Learning Day.
Remote Learning:
- March 6th Remote Learning Day forms for internet access and bus transportation were handed out to students on Thursday, February 23. These forms are due back to the Main Office no later than 3:00 pm on Monday, February 27th.
- Food service will be available. Grab and Go Breakfast and Lunch will be provided. Pickup time
for both meals is 7:00 AM-7:45 AM. Students who are at GHS for the day will be able to get food
at this time as well.
- Students will need to log into Zoom meetings to be counted present for each class. The Zoom
meetings for first block will start at 8:15 AM.
Arrival and Dismissal Changes: The following changes to arrival and dismissal will take place on Wednesday, March 1. See the GHS website for a video that demonstrates the changes.
- The Parent Loop will move to the current Bus Loop. Parents who are dropping students off in
the morning or picking them up in the afternoon will turn in through the entrance closest to
Short Lane. In the morning, students will enter through the doors near A116.
- The Bus Loop will move to the current Parent Loop.
- All students coming in from the Student Parking Lot and getting off the buses will enter through the main entrance near the Library. Students will not enter through the D-Hall doors.



Athletics: Congratulations on being recognized by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association and being named to the All-Academic team! Your hard work definitely paid off! Also, Congratulations to Channy Johnson on being selected to the NFHCA 2022 Senior Impact Team.

SENIORS: If you need mid-year transcripts sent to colleges you MUST request this in Naviance. Please make sure you request MID-YEAR transcripts in the drop-down.

Attention Seniors: Now is the time to apply for scholarships. The GHS Scholarship Application can be accessed from your Naviance account. The application with all needed forms has been sent to your school-based e-mail and paper copies are available in the Counseling Office. This application enables you to apply for 37 different scholarships with just one application. The deadline of March 15th is quickly approaching. No late applications will be accepted. Please see the Counseling Office if you have any questions.

Attention rising Juniors and families: The school counseling department will start course requests for rising juniors on Monday, February 6th. If you would like to be part of that meeting, email your child’s school counselor to set up a time. Emails and school counselor assignments can be found on the GHS website under the School Counseling page.

Visit the BayPort Credit Union site in c-hall to deposit $5 into your account, or open an account and be entered to win $25! One entry per person. We are open Mondays and Wednesdays.

Dukes’ Dispatch: The journalism students are proud to announce a new edition of the student

Don’t forget to bookmark the site and check back every two weeks for new stories and updates on events at GHS. In addition, the Dukes’ Dispatch is currently accepting student story submissions, club and activity announcements, and story ideas and leads. Yearbooks: Yearbooks are now for sale through https://www.yearbookordercente... using code 4758. Senior ads are also available through the order center until 3/1/23. The yearbook sold out last year, so make sure to order before it’s too late! Contact Lauren Leszczynski, the yearbook advisor with any additional questions.

Parking Passes: Parking passes have now been reduced for the 2022-2023 school year and are on sale for $25. Parking passes can be purchased in the Gloucester High School Main Office by using cash, check, or money order made out to Gloucester High School. Applications can be found on the Gloucester High School website or in the Gloucester High School Main Office and must be completely filled out. Students will be able to choose a numbered parking space on a first-come, first-serve basis until all parking spots are sold for the 2022-2023 school year.
