Good Afternoon Gloucester Families,

This is Dr. Mygas calling to let you know about a situation impacting our school today.  This morning, fumes from construction equipment caused an unpleasant odor in the hallways and classrooms on A-Hall, and some students and staff reported symptoms including dizziness and headaches.  We have closed all of A-Hall for the remainder of the day, and third and fourth block classes on A-Hall have been relocated.  Any students or staff reporting symptoms have been evaluated by our nursing staff to determine if medical treatment is needed. GCPS staff members have used gas detectors to check the area for the presence of poisonous gases, and no poisonous gases have been detected in any part of the building.

I anticipate that A-Hall will be reopened tomorrow, as the cause of the fumes has been identified and the construction team is taking measures to prevent the fumes from entering the hallways and classrooms.  GCPS and GHS staff will continue to monitor the situation to ensure the safety of staff and students.  If there are any further developments I will communicate the information as soon as possible.

Thank you for your support, and have a great rest of the day.
Stefan Mygas, Ed.D.
Principal, Gloucester High School
