Duke Update for 6/4/2023

Duke Update June 4, 2023

Student Technology
All GCPS technology including Chromebooks, chargers, Kajeets, etc. should be turned in to the
appropriate school before the close of business on Monday, June 12th. Please refer to the GCPS Device Price list for replacement costs.

Students turning in a device not issued to them will not receive credit for turning in a device. Students are responsible for the original devices issued to them.

Seniors should turn in their Chromebooks and chargers when they no longer need them for class, assignments, or SOL testing to room A123. If nobody is available in A123, then they should return at a later time to turn in the device. Do not leave Chromebooks and chargers on the floor outside of the door. All technology should be turned in no later than 3:00 PM on June 5th. Please refer to the GCPS Device Price list for replacement costs.

Grades 9-11 should turn in devices to technology staff in the Duke Rock on Thursday, June 8th, and Friday, June 9th. Staff will be there to check in Chromebooks and chargers during lunches. Additionally, on the 9th, staff will be standing by until 2:40 pm, collecting Chromebooks. Please refer to the GCPS Device Price list for replacement costs. All technology should be turned in no later than 3:00 PM on June 9th.

Students enrolling in summer school or other GHS summer programs will be issued a different device.

Beginning June 12th if a device needs to be returned or payment made for a missing or damaged Chromebook, that can be handled during summer hours, Monday-Thursday 7:30-4:30 PM. Please call before visiting GHS.

Medications: Parents/Guardians please be sure to pick up your students’ remaining medications from the clinic no later than NOON on the last day of school, Friday, June 9. Any prescription or non-prescription medications remaining past June 9 will be properly disposed of. Thank you for your cooperation.

Jostens will return on Thursday, June 8th to hand out cap/gown units before the mandatory graduation practice at 8:00 am. Jostens will be set up in front of the auditorium. Cap/gown units can be purchased for $50 cash.

Initial Credit summer school for Economics and Personal Finance, Health/PE 9, and Health/PE 10 is now open. Cost is $100 and all three classes will be done online. Forms and instructions are in the Main Office. Contact your school counselor if you have any questions.

Credit Recovery Summer School: Students who have been recommended by their counselors to attend Credit Recovery Summer School should turn in their completed registration forms to the main office as soon as possible. Anyone interested in joining and being a part of the football manager program should see Ms. Croft in the athletic office or Coach Butler in C146 for more information.

Parents/Guardians & Students: this is another important reminder that sportsmanship is a top priority of GCPS & the Virginia High School League. When attending any games either home or away we ask that you always show proper respect and sportsmanship for officials, players, and fans, both on and off the field. Any inappropriate actions in the stands cannot be tolerated. Such actions will lead to removal from games, and being banned from attending any future events. Please help us enjoy another successful season by showing extraordinary sportsmanship at all times.

Parents/Guardians & Community members: when arriving at GHS for an athletic or activity event please park in designated spaces only. Do not block other cars in or park in front of auto shop bays. It is important that we keep all roadways clear for emergencies and for cars or buses trying to get around the loop. Please do not drive the wrong direction in the loop. When picking students up please do not block traffic at the main entrance.
