This is Dr. Mygas calling. Today, Wednesday, June 7, the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality has issued a Code Orange Air Quality Alert, in effect until Midnight tonight. Today's air quality will be unhealthy for sensitive groups, such as individuals with respiratory and/or heart ailments, older adults, and children. These individuals should reduce prolonged or heavy outdoor exertion. For additional information, please visit the Virginia D E Q Air Quality Web Site. GCPS staff is aware of the situation and is coordinating with the Office of Emergency Management to ensure appropriate communications are in place for any outdoor activities.
