Duke Update October 1, 2023

Food Delivery Services: DoorDash, Uber Eats, GrubHub, and any other food delivery services are not permitted on campus during or after school.

Parents/Guardians this is a reminder to set up a School Cash Online account for your student(s). School Cash Online is the payment site to purchase any and all of your students fees, field trips, activities, and more. Please set up an account for your student today! A link can be found on the GHS website as well as the GCPS website.

Student illness: Please see the note from our school nurses about policies and procedures for when students are sick.

Yearbooks are now for sale online at yearbookordercenter.com using code 4758 for $55. There will be a price increase after October 1st. The book sold out the past 2 years so order before it’s too late!

Parent Drop-off: Traffic will flow in the opposite direction from last school year. Parents who are
dropping students off in the morning or picking them up in the afternoon will use the second entrance if coming from Route 17, or the third entrance if coming from T.C. Walker Rd. Students may enter in the morning and exit at dismissal through the C-Hall doors near the Art and Culinary classes or may report directly to their first block class if it is in one of the portables.

Parking Passes: Student Parking passes for the 2023-2024 school year are on sale for $52. Parking passes can be purchased using the School Cash online. Parking pass applications are available on the GHS website and Main Office and must be completely filled out. Students will be able to choose a numbered parking space on a first-come, first-served basis until all parking spots are sold for the 2023-2024 school year.

Bus Notes: Bus notes should be turned in to the Main Office at the beginning of the school day.

Activity Bus: The activity bus is now running, north and south bound and departs GHS at 5:45 pm Monday thru Thursday. Go to the GHS website or the Main Office for the drop off locations.

My School Bucks: Parents/Guardians if you would like to add money to your students lunch account, you can find the link for My School Bucks on the GCPS website under Food Services.

Counseling:
Attention all parents and guardians of college-bound students. The Gloucester High School counseling department and the Gloucester County Public Library will co-host a Financial Aid Workshop on October 11th at 4 p.m. at the Gloucester Library on Main Street.
Topics will include:
-What is financial aid?
-How does my child access local scholarship applications?
-How does my child file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid?
-What other forms might be needed for my child to receive financial aid?

Attention Senior Families: School counselors have started meeting with seniors to review graduation requirements and post-secondary plans. If you would like to attend your senior’s meeting please email their school counselor and set up an appointment. School counselor emails are on the GHS website and in students’ canvas accounts.

Attention Juniors and Seniors: Admissions representatives from several colleges and universities are conducting information sessions here at the high school for interested GHS Juniors and Seniors this fall. Randolph Macon College will be here on Monday, October 2nd. To participate, please sign up through your Naviance account. E-hall passes will be sent to those that sign up. Please see the Counseling Office if you have any questions.

The swim team for Gloucester High School will be holding an interest meeting for 8th-12th graders on Monday, October 2, 2023 at 3:15 in the Duke Rock at Gloucester High School.
*Reminder, all athletes need to have a School physical form completed to practice or compete.
Track Conditioning Training Schedule: Starting Tuesday, October 3rd , we will be holding our conditioning sessions every Tuesday and Thursday at GHS weight room from 3:15 pm -4:45 pm. Please have appropriate training clothing and shoes. In order to participate in any team activities, all student-athletes must be in the 8th -12th grade and meet minimum Vhsl 2.0 GPA requirements. Also, a current physical is mandatory for participation in any of our activities.

Ticket Prices: Peninsula District athletic event ticket prices are increasing this year for the sporting events that charge. Students and Adults are $7 each, children 6-12, and senior citizens are $5 each. This is for all home and away events. The athletic department will have season passes available for each season at a discounted rate.
