Duke Update October 8, 2023
Congratulations to the Gloucester Marching Dukes for placing second place in class 3 A this past Saturday winning best general effect and best color guard. The marching dukes also placed second overall in show and the color guard tied for first in overall! Way to go Marching Dukes.
The Gloucester NAACP and GHS W.E.B. DuBois Honor Society is hosting a College and Career fair at Gloucester High School on Thursday, October 19 from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM. Representatives from over 40 colleges, trade schools, employers, and military recruiters will be present. All students and their families are encouraged to attend.
Senior Make-up and Retake pictures will be on Monday, November 13th in the back of the Auditorium starting at 7:45 a.m. Lifetouch will only be completing tux and drape make-ups and retakes on that day. Please bring a tank top for the drape pictures or a plain t-shirt for the tux picture. This will be the final day for Senior pictures to be completed.
Picture Day for grades 9 through 11 will take place on Thursday, November 2nd, and Friday, November 3rd in the auxiliary gym.
The Student Advisory Committee will have a meeting this coming Monday, October 9th at 2:50 in the Duke Rock. All are encouraged to attend, as this is a representation of your voice with the school board. We discuss the atmosphere of our school, things that are going well as well as things that could improve. Come share your ideas!!! Again, Monday, October 9th 2:50 in the Duke Rock!
Jostens will return on Tuesday, October 24th, during all 3 lunch blocks to pick up and place orders for seniors and juniors. Ring and graduation packets can be picked up in the GHS Main Office.
GHS is collecting new toys for Toys 4 Tots from now until December 8th. Please bring your donations to the GHS Main Office.
Food Delivery Services: DoorDash, Uber Eats, GrubHub, and any other food delivery services are not permitted on campus during or after school.
Parents/Guardians this is a reminder to set up a School Cash Online account for your student(s). School Cash Online is the payment site to purchase any and all of your student's fees, field trips, activities, and more. Please set up an account for your student today! A link can be found on the GHS website as well as the GCPS website.

Yearbooks are now for sale online at yearbookordercenter.com using code 4758. The book sold out the past 2 years so order before it’s too late!
Parent Drop-off: Traffic will flow in the opposite direction from last school year. Parents who are
dropping students off in the morning or picking them up in the afternoon will use the second entrance if coming from Route 17, or the third entrance if coming from T.C. Walker Rd. Students may enter in the morning and exit at dismissal through the C-Hall doors near the Art and Culinary classes or may report directly to their first block class if it is in one of the portables.
Parking Passes: Student Parking passes for the 2023-2024 school year are on sale for $52. Parking passes can be purchased using the School Cash online. Parking pass applications are available on the GHS website and Main Office and must be completely filled out. Students will be able to choose a numbered parking space on a first-come, first-served basis until all parking spots are sold for the 2023-2024 school year.
Bus Notes: Bus notes should be turned in to the Main Office at the beginning of the school day.
Activity Bus: The activity bus is now running, north and south bound and departs GHS at 5:45 pm Monday thru Thursday. Go to the GHS website or the Main Office for the drop off locations.
My School Bucks: Parents/Guardians if you would like to add money to your students lunch account, you can find the link for My School Bucks on the GCPS website under Food Services.
Counseling:
There will be a college financial aid workshop co-hosted by the GHS School Counseling Department at the Main Street Library this Wednesday, October 11th at 4 p.m. All seniors who are headed to any type of post-secondary trade school or college and their families should attend.
Topics will include:
-What is financial aid?
-What forms need to be filled out to access financial aid?
-How do I fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid?
Attention Senior Families: School counselors have started meeting with seniors to review graduation requirements and post-secondary plans. If you would like to attend your senior’s meeting please email their school counselor and set up an appointment. School counselor emails are on the GHS website and in students’ canvas accounts.
Attention Juniors and Seniors: Admissions representatives from several colleges and universities are conducting information sessions here at the high school for interested GHS Juniors and Seniors. During the week of October 16th, Mary Baldwin University and Virginia Commonwealth University will be here. To participate, please sign up through your Naviance account. E-hall passes will be sent to those who sign up. Please see the Counseling Office if you have any questions.
Athletics:
A Neff representative will be at GHS on October 19th from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in front of the auditorium and taking orders for the Gloucester Dukes wool letterman jackets.
Here’s your opportunity this fall to purchase a letter jacket directly from the manufacturer.
Please bring your order form, your Gloucester Letter G, and full payment when placing your order. Cash, Checks, Cashier checks, or Money Orders. Order forms are on the GHS website.
Ticket Prices: Peninsula District athletic event ticket prices are increasing this year for the sporting events that charge. Students and Adults are $7 each, children 6-12, and senior citizens are $5 each. This is for all home and away events. The athletic department will have season passes available for each season at a discounted rate.
