Duke Update October 22, 2023
This week is Halloween Spirit Week with the following themes:
Monday: Monster Monday (Dress up as any type of monster)
Tuesday: Celebrity Day (Dress as your favorite celebrity)
Wednesday: Pink out (Wear all of your pink)
Thursday: Scarecrow (Dress as a scarecrow)
Friday: Halloween PJs (Wear your spooky pjs)
Please remember that masks, inflatable costumes, and toy weapons are not allowed.
Gloucester High School's SCA will host a Halloween Dance on Friday, October 27th from 8:30 pm until 10:30 pm in the GHS gymnasium. Sneakers are required in the gymnasium. Tickets are $5 at the door. Students may bring guests from other high schools but must obtain the dance permission form and return it to the GHS Main Office by 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 26th. Forms are available on the GHS website, Canvas, and in the Main Office.
GHS will host the All Pro Dad Breakfast on Wednesday, October 25th at 8:00 a.m. in the Duke Rock cafe. Forms can be found on the GHS website, Canvas, and in the GHS Main Office. Forms are due back to the GHS Main Office on Monday, October 23.
Lost and Found: students this is a reminder to check daily for any lost items. Please see the Main Office for the location.
Junior Announcement- Jostens will be at Gloucester High School on Tuesday, October 24th during all lunches in front of the Auditorium taking Junior class ring orders. Ring orders may be made with a 25 dollar deposit and the remaining balance can be paid in installments. Also, if a Junior purchases their class ring from Jostens, Jostens will pay for that student’s ticket to the Junior Ring dance on Saturday, April 20th. If a Junior would like to design their ring and pay online, they may do so by going to the Jostens website at www.jostens.com
Model United Nations will not be meeting on Monday. Instead, MUN will meet on Tuesday, October 24th by the weight room after school. MUN will be selling snacks for $1.00 to those who stay after for activities.
Parents/Guardians this is a reminder that GHS is not an open campus. Students are not permitted to leave campus to get lunch. If students are caught leaving campus without permission disciplinary action will occur.
Senior Make-up and Retake pictures will be on Monday, November 13th in the back of the Auditorium starting at 7:45 a.m. Lifetouch will only be completing tux and drape make-ups and retakes on that day. Please bring a tank top for the drape pictures or a plain t-shirt for the tux picture. This will be the final day for Senior pictures to be completed.
Picture Day for grades 9 through 11 will take place on Thursday, November 2nd, and Friday, November 3rd in the auxiliary gym.
GHS is collecting new toys for Toys 4 Tots from now until December 8th. Please bring your donations to the GHS Main Office.
Food Delivery Services: DoorDash, Uber Eats, GrubHub, and any other food delivery services are not permitted on campus during or after school.
Parents/Guardians this is a reminder to set up a School Cash Online account for your student(s). School Cash Online is the payment site to purchase any and all of your student's fees, field trips, activities, and more. Please set up an account for your student today! A link can be found on the GHS website as well as the GCPS website.

Yearbooks are now for sale online at yearbookordercenter.com using code 4758. The book sold out the past 2 years so order before it’s too late!
Parent Drop-off: Traffic will flow in the opposite direction from last school year. Parents who are dropping students off in the morning or picking them up in the afternoon will use the second entrance if coming from Route 17, or the third entrance if coming from T.C. Walker Rd. Students may enter in the morning and exit at dismissal through the C-Hall doors near the Art and Culinary classes or may report directly to their first block class if it is in one of the portables.
Bus Notes: Bus notes should be turned in to the Main Office at the beginning of the school day.
Activity Bus: The activity bus is now running, north and south bound and departs GHS at 5:45 pm Monday thru Thursday. Go to the GHS website or the Main Office for the drop-off locations.
My School Bucks: Parents/Guardians if you would like to add money to your student's lunch account, you can find the link for My School Bucks on the GCPS website under Food Services.
Counseling:
Attention Senior Families: School counselors have started meeting with seniors to review graduation requirements and post-secondary plans. If you would like to attend your senior’s meeting please email their school counselor and set up an appointment. School counselor emails are on the GHS website and in students’ canvas accounts.
Attention Juniors and Seniors: Admissions representatives from several colleges and universities are conducting information sessions here at the high school for interested GHS Juniors and Seniors. This week, Gettysburg College, the University of Mary Washington, and James Madison University will be here. The following week (the week of October 30th), Christopher Newport University will be here. To participate, please sign up through your Naviance account. E-hall passes will be sent to those that sign up. Please see the Counseling Office if you have any questions.
Athletics:
Congratulations to the GHS Boys volleyball team for finishing the regular season with a perfect 18-0 record!
Congratulations to the GHS competition cheer team for winning the Region 4A championship and advancing to the state championship competition!
The last home football game of the season is this Friday, October 27, at 7:00 PM. Come support our Dukes as they take on Woodside, and celebrate Senior Night for football, cheerleading, and marching band.
Winter sports tryouts start Monday, November 6th. A full list of dates, times, and locations is located on the GHS website. Coaches' emails are also listed on the GHS Website under athletics.
Ticket Prices: Peninsula District athletic event ticket prices are increasing this year for the sporting events that charge. Students and Adults are $7 each, children 6-12, and senior citizens are $5 each. This is for all home and away events. The athletic department will have season passes available for each season at a discounted rate.
Seniors:

Graduation orders may be made with a 25 dollar deposit and the remaining balance can be paid in installments. Also, Jostens will be delivering shirts, hoodies, and other gear ordered by Seniors earlier in the year with caps/gowns/announcements being delivered in the Spring. Also, if you would like to make a Senior cap/gown/tassel/graduation merchandise order, you may do so by going to the Jostens website at www.jostens.com
