This is Dr. Mygas calling. This evening, Monday, October 30, at approximately 6:40 PM during the security screening at the boys' volleyball regional tournament game, a student-athlete from an opposing team was found with an Airsoft pistol in his bag. Law enforcement officers were on site and immediately confirmed that the Airsoft pistol was not used or referenced in a threatening manner at any time. The item was confiscated and the matter is being addressed by personnel from GCPS, Norfolk Public Schools, and the Gloucester County Sherriff's Office. We commend the school security staff, Gloucester County Sherriff's Office, and Norfolk Public Schools for their immediate assistance with this situation. As always, safety is our top priority at GHS.
