Congratulations to our Model UN team for their competition at ODU this past weekend. Delegates Ash Jenkins, Connor White, Mason Dominguez, and Kyliegh Heath represented the Dukes as freshmen, and Elizabeth Ackley and Callie Fox as Seniors. Callie Fox brought home 2nd place at the competition as Outstanding Delegate for her committee! Congratulations to all of our Model UN competitors for a great weekend!!

Here are the results from this past weekend in Hampton at the 4A Regional championship meet.
GIRLS TEAM!
● 12 new Season Best!
● The amazing Deziray Bellinger BLAZED her way to a new school record in the 55m dash with a stunning 7.56 and snagged 6TH in the 55m dash!
● State-bound Mya Baker dominated the distance game, taking 2ND in the 1000m and 4TH in the 3200m!
● Jahdai Donald had a powerful 5TH in shot put!
BOYS TEAM!
● 10 new Season Best!
● Xavier Johnson soared to a NEW school record in the triple jump (41-10.5!) and placed 4 TH!
● Rylan Allcorn joined the state qualifier club with a stellar 2nd in the 1000m (2:35.50) and set a
NEW school record for himself!
● Honorable mentions go to Steven Byrd Jr (6th, 55m dash), Aiden Pincince (4th 3200m run), and the 4x800m relay team (4th) for their awesome performances!

Seniors, interested in helping plan for prom? Join us on Tuesday, February 27 at 2:50 in the Duke Rock to start planning a memorable prom!

Rising Freshman Night and CTE Open House is this Thursday, February 29, from 6:00-7:30PM.
Current GHS Students are invited to bring their families to tour our Career and Technical Education classes. Come by and see the amazing work that your students are doing in their Career and Technical classes!

This is a reminder of the New Early Dismissal Procedure that was implemented on Monday, February 12th. To ensure a smooth and organized process, all early dismissals must be picked up before 2:20 pm. Early dismissals occurring between 2:20 pm and 2:40 pm will now be released during regular dismissal at 2:40 pm. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Yearbooks: There are currently less than 50 yearbooks available for pre-order. Senior ads must be purchased by 3/9 to be included in the book and all yearbook orders must be placed by 4/1 or until sold out. Visit yearbookordercenter.com using code 4758 to place your order.

Gloucester High School is pleased to announce students can take the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicle learner’s permit test online at the school on the following dates: February 28, and March 20 at the Gloucester High School Media Center. Students 15 years and 6 months or older are eligible to test. Please see Canvas, Mr. Morgan, or Ms. Hypes for more details.

Parking: Parents, please do not park in the DSS parking lot across from GHS when you come to pick up your children from school.

Student illness: Please see this note from our school nurses about policies and procedures for when students are sick.

Counseling:
Attention Juniors and Seniors: An admissions representative from Advanced Technology Institute will be conducting an information session here at the high school this Thursday, February 15th for interested GHS Juniors and Seniors. ATI offers programs in HVAC/Refrigeration, Maritime Welding, Automotive Technology, and Heavy Vehicle & Diesel Technology. To participate, please sign up through your Naviance account. Please see the Counseling Office if you have any questions.

ATTENTION parents of rising 11th graders. Scheduling for next year’s classes will begin for rising juniors on February 1st. If you would like to participate in your child’s scheduling meeting please email your child’s school counselor and set up the time. School counselor assignments and emails are on the GHS website in the School Counseling section.

Attention Seniors: Now is the time to apply for scholarships. The GHS Scholarship Application can be accessed from your Naviance account. The application with all needed forms has been sent to your school based e-mail and paper copies are available in the Counseling Office. This application enables you to apply for multiple local scholarships with just one application. If you are thinking of attending any trade school or a 4-year or 2-year college, you should apply for local scholarships using this application. The deadline of March 13th is quickly approaching. No late applications will be accepted. Please see the Counseling Office if you have any questions.
Also, please check your Naviance account for additional scholarship opportunities. Several scholarships have recently been added with February and March deadline dates.

Intervention and Treatment Specialist: We are very excited to announce that we are offering a new service to students at GHS! In partnership with the Middle Peninsula Northern Neck CSB, a Substance Abuse Intervention and Prevention Specialist will be on site at GHS. The goal of the position is to offer substance use intervention/prevention and counseling services to lower the rate of substance use and abuse in Gloucester County Schools by offering intervention and prevention services to students.

Athletics:
Spring sports tryouts will be starting the week of February 19
th – information for each sport and their current conditioning times are listed on the GHS website, under athletics. Students must have a valid sports physical and meet grade eligibility requirements to participate.

Sportsmanship is a top priority of the Virginia High School League and GHS. Please show support and respect for the fans, opposing teams and game officials at all times while attending home or away events. Any misconduct can lead to dismissal from the game, and from attending future games. Please help us enjoy another successful athletic season by showing extraordinary sportsmanship at all times.

Ticket Prices: Peninsula District athletic event ticket prices have increased this year for the sporting events that charge. Students and Adults are $7 each, children 6-12, and senior citizens are $5 each. This is for all home and away events.
