Congratulations to the following Future Problem Solving students: Alexis Chattin, Madelyn Micket, Lexi Spangler, and Ashlee VanVranken on their competition on Friday, March 22nd. The team from GHS won two awards at the competition: 2nd place for Action Plan Presentations and 1st place for the Global Issues Problem Solving Team Competition. They qualified for the International Competition which will be held at Indiana University, June 5th-9th.

The WEB Du Bois Honor Society will meet in Mrs. Carter's 134 on WEDNESDAY, April 10th, from 3-4.

The GHS-NAACP will meet in Mrs. Carter's 134 on WEDNESDAY, April 17th, from 3-4.

Dress Code: Parents and guardians, we appreciate your support in following the GCPS dress code, which is found on page 6 of the Student Code of Conduct.

The Junior Ring Dance will be held at Gloucester High School on Saturday, April 13th from 7:00 pm until 10:00 pm. Juniors can now purchase tickets online through School Cash Online for $15 each. Juniors who purchased a class ring from Jostens will be admitted into the dance for free, but you will need to purchase a ticket for your guest. If you wish to invite a student from another school, you must submit a permission form by Thursday, April 11th. Gloucester High School is pleased to announce that students can take the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles learner’s permit test online at the school on the following dates: April 17th, May 1st, May 22nd & June 5th in the Gloucester High School Media Center. Students 15 years and 6 months or older are eligible to test. Please see Canvas, Mr. Morgan, or Ms. Hypes for more details.

Lost & Found: Students this is a reminder to check the lost and found daily if you have misplaced any items.

Bus Notes: Students this is a reminder to turn your bus notes into the Main Office at the beginning of the school day.

Student Parking Passes for the 2023-2024 school year are sold out.

Parking: Parents, please do not park in the DSS parking lot across from GHS when you come to pick up your children from school.

Seniors:
The GHS Senior Class presents, "Meet Me At Midnight Prom" on Saturday, May 4th from 7:00 pm until 10:00 pm at the Kiln Creek Golf and Country Club. Early bird tickets go on sale starting Monday, March 18th thru Sunday, April 7th: $65, Single, $80 Couples. Regular tickets go on sale Monday, April 8th through Sunday, April 28th, $80, Single, $95 Couples. Outside guests must be registered using a form linked on Canvas. Any questions please contact Mrs. Williams or Mrs. Zanette.

Application materials for several scholarships are due to the Counseling Office in the upcoming weeks as follows:

Abingdon Ruritan Club Scholarship due April 19th
Adam Stephen Neely Scholarship due May 3rd

Don’t miss out on these scholarship opportunities. Applications for each of these scholarships can be accessed from your Naviance account. If you would like paper copies, please stop by the Counseling Office. Also, please check your Naviance account regularly as there are many additional scholarships posted with upcoming March and April deadline dates. Counseling:
Attention 9th-grade families: School counselors will start scheduling next year’s classes with the current 9th graders on Monday, March 4th. If you would like to participate in the scheduling meeting please contact your child’s school counselor. Counselor assignments, emails, and the school counseling phone number on the GHS website under “School Counseling”.

All scheduling for next year is expected to be done before Spring Break.

Intervention and Treatment Specialist: We are very excited to announce that we are offering a new service to students at GHS! In partnership with the Middle Peninsula Northern Neck CSB, a Substance Abuse Intervention and Prevention Specialist will be on site at GHS. The goal of the position is to offer substance use intervention/prevention and counseling services to lower the rate of substance use and abuse in Gloucester County Schools by offering intervention and prevention services to students.

Athletics:

Attention Parents/Guardians: when attending athletic events please park in the designated parking areas. No public parking for Softball, Baseball, or Tennis matches in the area along the tennis courts, or by the GHS auto shop area. This area has a lot of construction equipment and supplies.

Sportsmanship is a top priority of the Virginia High School League and GHS. Please show support and respect for the fans, opposing teams, and game officials at all times while attending home or away events. Any misconduct can lead to dismissal from the game, and from attending future games. Please help us enjoy another successful athletic season by showing extraordinary sportsmanship at all times.

Ticket Prices: Peninsula District athletic event ticket prices have increased this year for the sporting events that charge. Students and Adults are $7 each, children 6-12, and senior citizens are $5 each. This is for all home and away events.
