This week GHS recognizes National SPED Day! This day honors the efforts of advocates, teachers, and parents in special education and highlights the importance of providing equal educational opportunities and inclusive environments for students with disabilities.
The Student Advisory Committee will meet after school on Tuesday, December 2nd in room 123. If you are unable to make it please let Mrs. Rowe know.
Interested in helping create a healthier Virginia? Y-Street is having an interest meeting on Tuesday, December 2nd. See Mrs. Carter or any member for more information!
Current sophomore or juniors interested in languages or ever thought about how cool it might be to become fluent in Spanish, German, French or even Japanese: There is an opportunity that might be for you! Come to the World Language Academies Interest meeting on Thursday, December 4 at 2:45pm in room 141 to learn more! Costa Rica Trip Summer 2026- Future travelers, now is the time to sign up and go to Costa Rica/Panama with us in summer 2026. It is not too late if you are still interested. Counseling
Current 11th grade students and families, beginning the first week of December the school counseling office will be conducting scheduling meetings to get ready for your senior year! Please use the Sign Up Genius Link located in the school counseling hub in Canvas to make your appointment or reach out to your school counselor for more information. If the available dates and times do not work for your schedule, please reach out to your student’s school counselor.
Families of Juniors and Seniors, please join us on Thursday December 11 at 5:30pm in the GHS Courtyard to hear from The College Place-Richmond director, Jasmine Philip regarding all things Financial Aid!
Athletics
Baseball conditioning will start again on Tuesday, December 2nd in the weight room from 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm. Any questions please see Coach Morande, Coach Hooker or Coach Kibler.
Daily Reminders
Senior and Junior parents/guardians: Please visit the GHS website under the Senior Corner for the Jostens Holiday Flyer. It includes a variety of discounts for cap and gown units, junior rings, and much more — please hurry while these discounts are available!
Shop with A Cop tickets have sold out! Thank you to all that purchased. Winners will be announced Friday, December 12th.
GHS Families: The Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) works with the School Board to improve services and support for students with disabilities in our schools. The committee is made up of parents of students with disabilities, adults with disabilities, school staff, and community representatives. Together, we share resources, raise awareness, and make recommendations on how our division can best meet the needs of all students. We would love for you to join us at our next meeting on Monday, December 8th, at 6:00 p.m. at the T.C. Walker Education Center.
All items on the Care Closet food list are still needed for weekly food bags. The items can be found on the GHS website under the "Find It Fast" page. Any donations will be greatly appreciated. Please contact shartley@gc.k12.va.us with any questions.
Parents/Guardians: This is just a reminder that early dismissal pick-up does end promptly at 2:20 PM. If you need to pick your student up early, please arrive PRIOR to 2:20 PM.
Lost and Found: Students, this is a reminder to check the Lost and Found daily if you have misplaced any items.
Dress Code: This is a reminder that sleepwear, blankets, and bedroom slippers are not allowed at school. Please make sure you’re following the dress code.
Bus Notes Reminder: All students who need to submit a bus note must turn it in to the Main Office in the morning. Notes should be provided at the start of the school day to allow time for review and approval. Submitting notes later in the day may result in delays or the note not being approved.
The Activity Bus will depart GHS at 5:30 p.m. for the remainder of the school year. The bus runs Monday through Thursday only. Please see the link for scheduled Activity bus stops: https://5il.co/3sjxt. Parents/guardians must be at their student’s designated stop when they arrive. If a student will not have a ride from their stop, a completed permission form must be turned in. Copies of the form are available in the Main Office, and completed forms should be given directly to the Activity Bus driver.
Yearbooks are now available for pre-order on yearbookordercenter.com using code 4758.
Parking passes - Additional parking passes are on sale via School Cash Online for Juniors and Seniors. Passes will be on a first come first served basis. If you have already purchased a pass but have not yet selected your spot, please bring your completed parking pass application along with a screenshot or printed copy of your receipt to the Main Office.
Free/Reduced Meal applications are available online and paper applications are available in the GHS Main Office.
Safety: All GCPS students go through security and weapons detectors each morning. Please continue to encourage students to be careful not to bring prohibited items to school such as vapes and lighters. Thanks for your support!
Parents and students, please check and verify contact information for you and your emergency contacts in PowerSchool. All returning GCPS students received an email from PowerSchool with a link to update demographic and emergency contact information. Please be sure to log in and verify that all information is correct, and make any changes that are necessary.
