Duke Update January 4, 2026
Welcome Back! We hope that everyone had a wonderful relaxing Winter Break and a Happy New Year!
This month is School Board Recognition Month, a nationwide observance highlighting school board members’ dedication to public education. We would like to thank all of our amazing School Board members for their hard work and dedication to all GCPS students, staff, and community members.

Are you looking for a relaxing start to your morning next semester; and interested in the medical field with need of a complete sequence for Intro into Health Careers? Take Medical Terminology with Mr. Burr the EMT teacher. All grade levels are accepted.
Counseling
Seniors: Now is the time to apply for scholarships. The GHS Scholarship Application has been e-mailed to your school-based e-mail and it can also be accessed from your Naviance account. Paper copies are available in the Counseling Office. This application enables you to apply for multiple local scholarships with just the one application. If you are thinking of attending any trade school or a 4-year or 2-year college, you should apply for local scholarships using this application. The deadline of March 11th will approach quickly. No late applications will be accepted. Please contact the Counseling Office if you have any questions.
Attention Juniors and Seniors: Please join us for a college admissions representative visit. Johnson and Wales University will be visiting GHS on January 15th. Learn more about their degree programs in Business, Culinary Arts, Design, Hospitality, Health Sciences, Nursing, and more! Please check your Naviance account to sign up. E-hall passes will be sent to those who have signed up. Please see the Counseling Office if you have any questions.
Athletics

GHS basketball: The boys play at home on Wednesday and Friday. The girls play away on Tuesday and Thursday.
GHS Wrestling will compete in the VA Duals on Friday and Sat this week.
GHS Swimming will compete Thursday at the Hampton Aquaplex.
Gloucester Rowers Association Winter/Spring Information Night: All returning rowers and any 8th thru 12th graders wanting to learn to row. On Monday, January 5th from 5:00 pm until 6: 00 pm in the Gloucester High School Cafeteria. For any questions please email: gloucesterrowingassociation@gmail.com
Daily Reminders:
Senior and Junior parents/guardians: Please visit the GHS website under the Senior Corner for the Jostens Holiday Flyer. It includes a variety of discounts for cap and gown units, junior rings, and much more — please hurry while these discounts are available!
If you need to pick your student up early, please arrive PRIOR to 2:20 PM.
Lost and Found: Students, check the Lost and Found daily if you have misplaced any items.
Bus Notes Reminder: All students who need to submit a bus note must turn it in to the Main Office in the morning to allow time for review and approval. Submitting notes later in the day may result in delays or the note not being approved.
The Activity Bus departs GHS at 5:30 p.m. for the remainder of the school year Monday through Thursday. Please see the link for scheduled Activity bus stops: https://5il.co/3sjxt
Parents/guardians must be at their student’s designated stop when they arrive. If a student will not have a ride from their stop, a completed permission form must be turned in. Copies of the form are available in the Main Office, and completed forms should be given directly to the Activity Bus driver.
Yearbooks are available for pre-order on yearbookordercenter.com using code 4758.
Additional parking passes are on sale via School Cash Online for Juniors and Seniors. Passes will be on a first come first served basis. If you have already purchased a pass but have not yet selected your spot, please bring your completed parking pass application along with a screenshot or printed copy of your receipt to the Main Office.
Safety: All GCPS students go through security and weapons detectors each morning. Please continue to encourage students to be careful not to bring prohibited items to school such as vapes and lighters. Thanks for your support!
