Duke Update June 2, 2024
The last day of school for students is Thursday, June 6th. It is also an early release day, students will be released at 12:30 pm. We hope that all students have a safe, enjoyable, and relaxing summer break!

Spring Athletes and Families – Awards Night is Wednesday, June 5th in the GHS Auditorium – we have 2 sessions this year due to a shortage of space – please bring a dessert to share at your time slot.

The Track team had a great week at regionals last week.
On the boys side we had 12 new Personal Records with the following athletes qualifying for the state meet:
Boys 4x800m relay team ( Tyler Hicks, Joel Taylor, Eric Waters, & Rylan Allcorn)
Aiden Pincince: Regional Champion 3200m run
Rylan Allcorn: Regional Champion 1600m run & 800m run

On the girls side we had 8 new Personal Records and a new School Record with the following athletes qualifying for the state meet:
Girls 4x800m relay team (Mary VanFossen, Avalynn Hutton, Kayla Turner & Mya Baker)
Deziray Bellinger: 100m & 200m (new School record)
Mya Baker: 3200m run Regional Champion, 800m

Students seeking enrollment for 2024-25 Nurse Aide program must attend with a parent or guardian to the mandatory orientation Monday, June 3rd at 5:30pm.

Students seeking enrollment for 2024-25 Cosmetology Program must attend with a parent or guardian to the mandatory orientation Monday, June 3rd at 5:30pm.

Medications: Parents/Guardians please be sure to pick up your students’ remaining medications fromthe clinic no later than NOON on the last day of school, Thursday, June 6th. Any prescription or non-prescription medications remaining past June 7th will be properly disposed of. Thank you for your cooperation.

Jostens will be at GHS on June 7th from 10:30 am until 12:00 pm after the mandatory graduation practice to hand out cap/gown units. Seniors may also purchase a unit at that time for $50 cash or money order made out to Jostens.

Graduation: The 2024 GHS graduation ceremony will be held at 9:00 AM on Saturday, June 8 in Dukes Stadium at GHS. Important information about the event can be found here: Graduation Information

Drawing and Painting student's artwork will be on display from Monday afternoon May 20th until Monday morning June 3rd.

Dress Code: Parents and guardians, we appreciate your support in following the GCPS dress code, which is found on page 6 of the Student Code of Conduct. Please note that hats and hoods should not be worn indoors, and tops must cover the midriff and navel.

Gloucester High School is pleased to announce that students can take the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles learner’s permit test online at the school on the following dates: June 5th. Students 15 years and 6 months or older are eligible to test. Please see Canvas, Mr. Morgan, or Ms. Hypes for more details.

Lost & Found: Students this is a reminder to check the lost and found daily if you have misplaced any items.

Bus Notes: Students this is a reminder to turn your bus notes into the Main Office at the beginning of the school day.

Parking: Parents, please do not park in the DSS parking lot across from GHS when you come to pick up your children from school.

*On the morning of the ceremony, no graduates should go directly to GHS. Graduates must arrive at Page Middle School no later than 7:30 AM to take a bus to GHS. Parking at Page is limited, so graduates are encouraged to carpool or get dropped off.

Seniors may now request 5 extra tickets for graduation through the GHS Main Office. Only one request per student. All graduating seniors will receive 10 tickets at the mandatory graduation rehearsal Friday, June 7th at 8:30 am. The deadline to request extra tickets is 12:30 pm on Thursday, June 6th.

Counseling:
Summer School: GHS will offer virtual courses for initial credit and credit recovery this summer. The cost for all courses is $100 each.

Intervention and Treatment Specialist: We are very excited to announce that we are offering a new service to students at GHS! In partnership with the Middle Peninsula Northern Neck CSB, a Substance Abuse Intervention and Prevention Specialist will be on site at GHS. The goal of the position is to offer substance use intervention/prevention and counseling services to lower the rate of substance use and abuse in Gloucester County Schools by offering intervention and prevention services to students.

Athletics:
Attention Parents/Guardians: when attending athletic events please park in the designated parking areas. No public parking for Softball, Baseball, or Tennis matches in the area along the tennis courts, or by the GHS auto shop area. This area has a lot of construction equipment and supplies.

Parents and Fans attending athletic events - Sportsmanship is always a top priority. Please show support and respect for the fans, opposing teams and game officials at all times while attending home or away events. This includes never engaging negatively with fans or players from the opposite team. Any misconduct can lead to dismissal from the game, and from attending future games.

Ticket Prices: Peninsula District athletic event ticket prices have increased this year for the sporting events that charge. Students and Adults are $7 each, children 6-12, and senior citizens are $5 each. This is for all home and away events.
